Hostile Jungle
Suddenly waking to a fit of coughing, you find yourself soaking wet and face down on a lightless, muddy shore. Behind you lies either a large lake or an ocean, its size being hard to discern in the dim torchlight that is your only illumination. Pushing yourself to your feet, you slowly look around, trying to take in your surroundings. A stone obelisk stands in front of you, its surface engraved with a strange spiral marking of unknown origin and meaning. The path ahead of you is well worn and marked with standing torches, though they provide only enough radiance to see the path ahead of you. The sounds of the jungle are all around you, and off in the distance, an eerie droning chant can be heard, punctuated at periods by a tolling bell and an occasional inhuman scream.
With a storm gathering over the water, you decide that you have no choice but to press inland to attempt to find help, or at least shelter from the impending rain. With no memory of who you are or why you're here, you take your first steps down the shadowy path, desparately trying to ignore the occasional sounds of something moving over the ground just out of sight.
