Night on the Keys
It’s summer in the Florida Keys, and you’re roughing it overnight on an abandoned island. It’s HOT. All you’ve brought with you tonight is a towel to sleep on and a sheet to throw over you to ward off the sand being tossed in your face by the wind. That wind is nearly howling all night long, but at least it’s a reprieve from the extreme heat.
In the Keys, the animals are small and the sea life is huge. Pint-sized raccoons and little Key deer scurry by constantly; they’re unafraid of the occasional human visitor. At least once a night the clear weather is abruptly broken by a brief but intense shower – another reprieve from the atrocious warmth. Thunder rolls in the distance but you’re not afraid of the worst coming ashore because for some reason it always stops out there on the ocean before it strikes your little campground. You’re content to rest this way for as long as island time allows.
